W Singapore Sentosa Cove: a Staycation (Part 1)

[a fair warning, this is going to be a long post. I broke it up in 2 parts so in this post, I am discussing about the hotel in general as well as the Fantastic Suite. If you are looking for AWAY Suite, it’s in part 2]

September is a magical month. I believe it’s the month when unicorns prance, pastel-shades-rainbows span long and wide from a sea of fluffy white clouds, magic dust rain down on everyone. Most importantly, it’s a month of Hubs’ and my birthday, PLUS our dating anniversary. Coincidentally, W Singapore Sentosa Cove beckoned us to spend a celebratory weekend with them. Well, who were we to refuse such generous offer?

We’ve only been to the hotel once, sometime in 2016 for their Wed with Style wedding showcase. At that point of time, we were awed with their ballroom and decoration. No doubt they were put together by a group of dedicated wedding fairy god-mothers (and -fathers!) who would go to any lengths to present you with your perfect wedding day. Nevertheless, I’ve digressed, you’re not here to read on their wedding-magic so I’m gonna stop.

I shall say this. If you have any celebrations, be it birthday, anniversary, bridal shower, W Singapore has made it their mission to pamper. On the days leading up to our stay, I liaised with their guest relations officer via email, Mr. Ameer Amran. As far as we were aware of prior to the stay, we were given their Marvelous Suite to stay on Fri, 1 September – Sun, 3 September 2017. I updated him on my idea of giving Hubs a little surprise from the hotel. And wow! He and his W team presented us with an experience we would never forget.

Nestled deep within Sentosa Cove, getting there without the convenience of a car can be quite a hassle. There were a few options for you to take, one of the easier ones was waiting for their shuttle bus. The drop-off/pick-up point that we went to was at VivoCity, outside JPOT restaurant. The downside of waiting for the shuttle bus is the unpredictable timing. We waited for 30-45 minutes for the bus to come each time.

Past the ‘getting there’ options, we were greeted by the iconic white “W” sculpture on the roundabout pond outside the hotel entrance. It is as beautiful as night when it gets lit up with the constant changing shades of lights.

The luxurious hotel lobby offers a sneak preview of the artistic touches that runs throughout the whole hotel. At night, the light-play is prominent as guests are welcomed into the property.

Feel like a million dollar as you walk up the red-carpeted staircase to access the lobby. But don’t worry about your luggages. We had one cabin luggage (on top of our own carry-ons), so we went for one of the two glass elevators in the corner. Alternatively, you can always entrust your luggage to the bellboy. They are more than happy to assist you.

Our check-in was smooth. 3 of the counters were opened when we reached in the early afternoon. I did the check-in while Hubs sat down with all our stuffs. Thankfully, there are plenty of plush sofa seats around. Remember I talked about surprises earlier? The first surprise was when we were told that our room was upgraded to the Fantastic Suite. Clearly we had no idea what the room looked like since all we had looked up prior to the stay was Marvelous Suite and how marvelous it truly looked (sneaks below).

An upgrade that is bound to be even more fancy than this? Yes, please! Into the elevator and up to level 7 we went!

The fact that it was on the highest level of the hotel got us plenty excited. We love high-level rooms since it probably means awesome views outside the windows, with the exception of lack of elevators. Which, by all means, please give us as low a level as possible.

Our suite, Fantastic Suite, was all the way at the end of the corridor, level 7 room number 702. We had to walk quite a long way in from the elevator landing. The size of the suite justified the location of the suite though, since it requires a huge space for…

Spot the white modern rocking chair! So comfy, Hubs actually fell asleep on it

I think this is the first time our room has a dining table. I also love the extended pantry, undisturbed by the minibar goodies and water kettle since they are all well arranged in a dedicated cabinet. It seems that Nespresso machines are becoming a trend in hotels, so naturally W suites have got to have one too.We still have some more to cover, so let’s move on to the next section of the suite.

There is still one of the most important part of any hotel room, the bedroom. A large TV facing the bed, connected to Bose surround system and a blue-ray player. Hubs loves the suspended egg-shaped sofa at the end of the room. Imagine a scene where the hero enters the bedroom and thought it is empty, until something rotates around to reveal the villain sitting comfortably with a wide menacing smile upon his face. That’s exactly what he did (as the villain, of course).

On the other hand, I fancied the ambient light function. The whole room could be lit with different light adjustment depending on the mood preset you select on the panel next to the bed. Great for setting that perfect ambiance (woo-hoo!).

For a suite that boasts a 76-square-meter indulgence, it comes as no surprise that this bedroom is comfortably sized with en-suite bathroom.

The bathroom is so fancy that I wouldn’t mind literally staying inside all-day. There is a freestanding jacuzzi tub, separate shower that has 3 different shower output (rain shower, hand-held shower, horizontal spray. With all that, Hubs called the shower room a water theme park!), separate toilet area, massive vanity area, snazzy toiletries, not to mention a TV within another mirror for you to just sit back and enjoy as you soak in the tub. For the health-conscious, they also provide a digital weighing scale.

All the different rooms in the suite has been covered, so let’s head out for the highlight of the suite!

It’s a 180-degree view balcony with private pool, plus ample lounging areas. No matter where you turn, you can find photo-worthy angles.

The only downside was that the balcony isn’t sufficiently sheltered. The sofa seats outside were all soaked so we couldn’t get a chance to enjoy lounging on them. No matter, awesome views compensated for it!

That’s all for this suite, folks! We stayed in this suite for a night since we got to experience a different suite, equally sweet, for the second night. Stay tuned for my next post covering the serenity of AWAY Suite and their gourmet breakfast selections.
